I would like to commend the creators and maintainers of this excellent site.  It is extraordinarily well done, complete and a moving tribute.

However, the Roll of Rembrance may have an error or perhaps I am not reviewing it correctly.  The Roll as currently constructed has the following information with regard to people on board:

21 Crew  plus  Passengers:
182 New Zealand          2 Australia     3 Canada   1 France     25 Japan     3 Swiss     7 UK     20 US 

This totals to 264 human beings versus the actual number of 257.  I respectfully submit there may errors in the Roll or I would very much appreciate any feedback / information that might clarify my understandig as a historian

the actual numbers in total are: 200 New Zealanders, 24 Japanese, 22 Americans, 6 British, 2 Canadians, 1 Australian, 1 French, 1 Swiss but some people may have related to a different ethnicity

Hi Peter

It has been quite challenging to get a final passenger list. There are some errors in spelling of some of the names, but hopefully overtime we will be able to correct these. I will look into it further with my contact at NZ Archives.

I have no idea of the other numbers but I did notice that the roll is incorrect in respect of the two passengers I knew,  one my second cousin's husband, and the other the son of a schoolfriend of my father's.  Heinz Burgi and Urs Locher were both Swiss, living in NZ, with NZ residency but not citizenship, but are listed on the roll as New Zealanders.  I suggest that they perhaps account for two of the 'extra' people you have counted - so that while I also commend the site it could perhaps do with a review in respect of this information for all passengers.

It just goes to show how much has changed in international travel in the past 30 years... (just saying.)
