I am Gordon's sister and remember him with great pride as one of the chief engineers in Air New Zealand. His voice on the black box voicing his concerns and then faithfully counting down as the distance between the plane and the ground so unexpectedly lessened, illustrated his courage, integrity, and meticulous service to duty in the Airline which was his life. She used to look after me when I was little and I remember her as a glamorous, beautiful and warm aunty who I loved, and now cannot eat jellybeans with associating them with her. Her passing had a terrible impact on my family, and nothing was the same again for the Clancy's and sadly for her husband Roelof who took his own life 5 months later. I wish that you could have been there when I enlisted...when I got my para wings...when I got back after my first operational tour, and so many more. I guess we'll never really know if you'd would have been able to be there...but I will tell you this. When I asked Gran (Iris) about your medals, and then helped her apply for them, she asked me to look after them, because in her words 'Geoff would have wanted you to have these'. Well, I've taken that responsibility very seriously...and they are always in the inside pocket of my Number 1's for ANZAC Day and Armistice Day (if I am fulfilling a parade appointment) or on display if I'm not. One of these years, I WILL get down to Erebus...somehow. I want to see the place...and maybe that will help with some of the grief and the healing. And maybe a chance to be close to you again...
